I’m sure Jeph & fans are deflecting all criticism by dismissing it as bigotry, but this whole thing is disgustingly transparent pandering and shitty storytelling. It’s such a failure of characterization on so many levels.

Jeph lives (or has lived) in the biggest SJW hotspot in the east coast (outside of NYC), Northampton, home of two all girl colleges and mecca to ratty fedora dorks hoping to score desperate pussy. Because he’s lived here, he’s certainly met trannies before. So he’s just being dishonest because anyone who has met any knows they do not act like this. Trannies can be drama queens (drag queens who just took it to the next level), they can be serene Martha Stewarts, or they be mean streak crazy Brianna Wus. What they NEVER are is nervous fidgety wallflowers. They’re living out whatever fantasy they believe will make them a whole person and nobody fantasizes about being a stuttering dolt like Claire. It’s obvious that Claire started off as just a carbon copy of Marigold minus the weeaboo. She retroactively became trans on a whim once Jeph smelled the social justice gravy pulling out of the station. What I don’t get is why Jeph didn’t do this with the tall Asian chick instead of Claire. It would have made a ton more sense, explaining how she was so tall and no-filter.

And there was at least some chemistry between Marten and tall chick. There was zero chemistry between Marten and Claire prior to any of this. It’s hard to name a character that Marten had less chemistry with. It went from 0 to 60 the instant Claire’s secret came out. One minute she’s background noise at Marten’s job, the next he’s inviting her to fly out as his wedding date to share hotel rooms with. He hadn’t so much as had lunch with her prior to the trans reveal. Marten had gone for nothing but sassy bossy girls the entire comic. Claire is just a photocopy of Marigold and he had never shown the slightest interest in her. In fact, wasn’t it only a couple months ago there was a plot where Marten was obsessing over the tall Asian sending him signals? Again, it would have made a hundred times more sense if tall Asian was the tranny that Marten ended up with.

But it makes sense to anyone who’s familiar with this comic since this is just yet another showcase for Marten being a complete saint composed of pure light. You can just envision the halo Jeph desperately wants to draw above him in every panel. Marten has always been Jeph’s Mary Sue, and the only purpose of anything in this retarded non-story comic’s entire run has been to paint Marten as this perfect, yet put upon angelic creature. It’s endless garbage like this that cements QC as the very worst webcomic, even moreso than Sinfest.
